Analyzing the AL All-Star Starters

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the baseball season- time to bitch and moan about the All-Star selections, an argument everyone will forget within the next two weeks (when trade deadline rumors start up). The selections just came out today (though the New York Post leaked the starters last night).

C- Joe Mauer, MIN

This selection is a no brainer. Continue Reading »

A few handy tricks to know when writing your posts…

To insert an image into your post, and wrap text around it, simply click your mouse where you want the image to begin. I inserted it right after the word ‘image’ and justified it Left. It doesn’t work if you do this at the beginning of a section. I’ll insert the image at the end of this line. Continue Reading »

5 Reasons the Packers can compete

With the retirement of the legendary Brett Favre an array of doubt and skepticism has come over the Packers. Apparently there wasn’t a team around Favre that propelled the team to a 13-3 record and an NFC Championship game in Lambeau field for the first time in 10 years. People went from (2005) hating Favre and claiming he should retire too (2007) thinking that without Favre the Packers are going to crumble and are in a tail spin without him. In this post I’ll try to give you 5 good reasons why the Packers can and will still be able to compete even without their leader.

1. Aaron Rodgers - That’s right, Aaron Rodgers is the number one reason why the Packers can be competitive once again in 2008. While he has only played about 3 quarters of an NFL Regular Season game, he has had the benefit of sitting behind one of the greatest QB’s to ever take a snap. Continue Reading »

Changes Around the League, Part 2

Rules Changes

1. All facemask calls are of the 15 yard variety – no more slaps on the wrists for ‘incidental contact.’ And there are rumblings that calling face masking on ballcarriers will be a new point of emphasis.

2. No more force outs on catches. A receiver will have to get two feet in bounds for a reception. Probably serves the league well, as more often than not the rule was misinterpreted, blown, or not called. Worse yet, force outs were not subject to review.

3. Field goals and extra points now are subject to instant replay review. Continue Reading »

Feels Good to be Back.

For those who may not remember me, my name is BigBensBestFriend, or for those who would hate to type all of that BBBF. I was a regular poster back in the “Football Refuge” days. I remember coming here when someone posted the link to the fuge’ site on espn, to come to this “new site” that was about sports not all the racism and stupid commenting that takes place on espn (I guess that was a lie, but its still not as bad here). Upon coming to the fuge’ I immediately became good friends (online friends at least) with a number of posters including DaRaider, 6 one 9, Skins, Gabe, and yes the ultimate antagonist, CnI. Like everyone else, I am still waiting on Any to leave her family and move to Pittsburgh to live with me and become a Steelers fan…….but she has yet to accept my proposal. Due to job changes, I no longer was able to post regularly though I would occasionally log in to see what was going on around here. Continue Reading »

Getting Up to Speed with Changes Around the League

If you share some NFL fans’ grievance that the 17-week season is too short and fleeting, the February to September interlude is an exile of longing and anticipation. Though no action occurs on the field, there is no shortage of league developments to keep fan curiosity and hope piqued in the off-season. Personnel moves, rules changes, broadcasting shifts, a steady rumor mill – the NFL has it all. Two and a half millenniums ago the ancient Greek Heraclitus noted Nothing endures but change. He must’ve been an NFL enthusiast.

In case you missed them, here are some of the off-season personnel developments and storylines. Continue Reading »
